How do you get to know someone? You could definitely ask them their name- I'm Caitlin, but I think some better questions could be:
1. Who is someone you admire? If I were to recommend one person to follow on Twitter, it would be Francis Ryan, a columnist and journalist who writes for The Guardian on social inequality. Her reporting on disability and chronic illness during COVID-19 (and before), has put a spotlight on how authorities are treating the most vulnerable and brought together disabled and chronically ill people who find a community in the comments of her articles and posts. There are so many journalists, photographers, artists, writers and advocates I admire- but I can save them for future posts!
2. What is your favourite TV show? At the moment mine is Warrior. It's a show based on the writings of Bruce Lee and described as "the martial arts Western " by The Ringer. Intrigue in a historical San Francisco, when Chinese immigrants were facing racism eerily similar what we see today ( Check #StopAsianHate on Twitter), while the Tongs fight each other to control the opium trade and the politicians fight to pass the Asian Exclusion Act.
3. What work are you most proud of? My first piece written and illustrated for Accessible Artistry, a UK based non-profit promoting disability within the creative industries "Unmasking Inequality", finding solutions to the isolation of d/Deaf and Hard of Hearing people in a world of masks. Also, a documentary piece around the aftermath of sexual assault. I have taken a break from the project for now for my emotional health- but it remains an image, and piece of work I am glad I put into the world. In a year, or maybe even next week, I hope I have a few more to add to this list!
